The page lists the high speed Internet providers serving Norwich, and their current level of service in town.
Comcast currently serves many areas in town, and is the only major provider that is willing to expand their services in Norwich. Comcast has a specific procedure in place that allows customers to buy cable service if they do not have it yet. Our current effort involves expanding Comcast services to the roads in and around Union Village Road.
We have spoken with the key spokesperson in charge of our region, and Verizon would make no commitment whatsoever to expanding high speed Internet services in Norwich. Unlike Comcast, Verizon does not offer residents the ability to buy into their system. Apparently, infrastructure costs are very high, and it would take hundreds of thousands of dollars to do a full expansion into Norwich.
Valley.net is no longer offering DSL service to new customers.
Wavecomm offers wireless Internet to residents in pockets of Norwich that can see their transmitter antenna. Many residents who have Wavecomm complain of slow speeds and reliability issues.
FINOWIN has taken down their Web site, and may no longer be offering service to new customers. Their staff has been cut to a bare minimum, and their future is uncertain. Many residents who have FINOWIN complain of slow speeds and reliability issues.
None of the local telephone companies such as V-Tel or Sovernet are offering DSL in Norwich.
Local networking companies such as Segtel can expand high speed Internet into our area, but again it takes tens of thousands of dollars to do this.
